Seasons Greetings! Here is a report of Acquisitions to date. Note that my colleagues also purchase titles that may be of interest to you so ask me if you don’t see something. I’ve appended a reminder of library services.

These are titles that have been ordered on the following funds: culture & communication, video funds, journalism, legal studies, IMC, CMD, & TVR. Feel free to recommend a purchase by emailing me. New titles (in general) can be browsed on the library’s homepage. We need to spend 100% by March 2010. Let me know if you’d like to see a recommended title list.

Library Instruction
Book a library instruction session for your class. Instruction sessions can be arranged at any time over the course of the semester. There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) send me an email with the where and when of the class visit along, or 2) fill out the following form: Request for Library Instruction or me an email.

Faculty Instructional Tools: Widgets
Widgets are small embeddable library learning modules that you can embed in your instructional website or Blackboard page. We have a “Widget Gallery” that includes the following modules: Boolean Searching, Finding Scholarly Articles, Search Term Truncation, Using Subject Headings, Choosing a Topic, Plagiarism, & Primary/Secondary Sources.

Book Delivery Service via ILL
Our Circulation services can deliver books held in the IC Library to your office. To use this service, sign into Interlibrary Loan (email user name & password). Under “New Requests” to the left of the screen, click on “Campus Delivery.” Enter the book information — the call number from the library is helpful — and we’ll get the book(s) to you.

FAIR set up a petition to urge PBS to keep quality investigative journalism:

PBS’s mission is to “provide a voice for groups in the community that may otherwise be unheard,” to serve as “a forum for controversy and debate,” and broadcast programs that “help us see America whole, in all its diversity.” Two shows that did–Now and Bill Moyers Journal–will soon be gone. What replaces those programs will be a test of PBS’s commitment to the very foundations of public broadcasting itself. PBS should develop new programming that will be just as tough and independent.

Wow. Any more of my fav. shows go away & I’ll cancel my basic cable.

Can’t recall where I spied this article. Foreign reporters are wonderfully frank; here is the lede:

A law that demands consent to internet cookies has been approved and will be in force across the EU within 18 months. It is so breathtakingly stupid that the normally law-abiding business may be tempted to bend the rules to breaking point.
