The Park Center for Independent Media invites you to a screening of an important new documentary film, Harvest of Empire, based on Democracy Now! cohost Juan González’s ground-breaking book, Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America. The screening will take place on Tuesday, February 12, 7:00 p.m., in Park Hall Auditorium and will be followed by a panel discussion.
Harvest of Empire exposes the direct connection between the long history of U.S. intervention in Latin America (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua) and the immigration crisis we face today – one of the country’s most polarizing issues. LA Times movie critic Sheri Linden wrote: “Harvest of Empire presses past the distortions and prejudices that are shaping much of the immigration debate in the United States.”
Following the film, PCIM director Jeff Cohen will host an audience Q&A with Professors Patricia Rodriguez of the Department of Politics and Gustavo Licon of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, both of whom specialize in Latin American issues.
