Juan González to Speak at Ithaca CollegeThe Park Center for Independent Media is pleased to host a lecture by author/journalist/Democracy Now! cohost JUAN GONZALEZ,7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, in Emerson Suites (Campus Center).
González’s lecture will explore the role of racial divisions and segregation in the history of U.S. media and how racism in mainstream media often prompted the birth of independent media outlets and movements that challenged official narratives. That is the topic of his latest book (coauthored with Joseph Torres), News for All the People – The Epic Story of Race and American Media.Widely known for his work with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now!, Juan González is an award-winning investigative journalist and columnist for the New York Daily News. He is former president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. His earlier books areFallout: The Environmental Consequences of the World Trade Center Collapse, which documents cover-ups by EPA and government officials about health hazards at Ground Zero; Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America; and Roll Down Your Window: Stories of a Forgotten America.
